Ministry of Happiness
Ministry of Happiness
GDP and continuous growth as a measure of development is a capitalist construct which is no longer compatible with the challenges of climate change and social inequality we face. Progressive societies are starting to value measures of happiness and well-being as the alternative measure of success. This projects imagines a new Ministry of Happiness and Wellbeing for London, in one of the most prominent of locations, the Serpentine Lake, which signifies the importance of which a progressive new future society might hold such values.

“Made in Camden” is a project which enables the new Camden Goods Yard community to construct their own community led garden and craft centre, which would form a community asset and social hub for this new development.
The proposal embraces the principles of the Slow Food movement. It aims to promote the tradition of mead making using resources collected on site, from which the pleasure of growth, making and drinking is linked with a commitment to the community and environment
This concept is also utilised as a metaphor for slow architecture. The building is constructed over a 20-years period, with a low-tech system and building material collected and produced on site with community engagement. The building itself is therefore the product of community effort, which serves and brings together the residents in the new development and in Camden.
